China, made easy
Visiting China is easier than ever. We handle the tricky parts.
More than 22 million foreign visitors came to China in the first half of 2026, most of them visa-free. What still trips people up is everything after landing: payment apps, blocked websites, hotels that refuse foreign passports, and tickets that sell out. We sort all of that before you arrive.

Where we go
From the Great Wall to the Gobi
We cover the places first-time visitors dream of, from Beijing, Xi’an and Shanghai to Chengdu, Guilin and Zhangjiajie. We also run journeys to the wilder Northwest, where Road Commune was born.
Beyond the classics
Road trips into the wild Northwest
Road Commune started as a road-travel community in Ningxia. These 4x4 journeys are our home turf: the Silk Road, the Yellow River and the deserts, with no more than four guests per vehicle. Unlike most Northwest trips sold in English, they have fixed departures and published prices: no “price on request”.
The Silk Road by Road
Drive the Hexi Corridor in 4x4s: rainbow mountains, the fort at the western end of the Great Wall, the Mogao Caves and the singing dunes of Dunhuang.
Edge of the Desert
Visit a lost empire’s UNESCO-listed tombs, taste wine from the Helan Mountain foothills, and spend a night camped in the dunes. This is where Road Commune began.
River, Gobi & Grassland
A slow loop across the Helan Mountains into Mongolian herding country, with long empty roads out to the horizon.
Why book with us
Our promises, in writing

The price you see is the price you pay
Every inclusion and exclusion is listed. There’s no compulsory tipping kitty and no surprise local fees.
Hotels that accept foreign passports
Some Chinese hotels still turn away foreign guests. Every hotel we use is checked for foreign-passport registration before your trip.
Tickets that sell out, booked for you
The Forbidden City, the Mogao Caves and holiday bullet trains need advance, ID-linked bookings. We secure them as soon as you reserve.
Small groups, real leaders
Groups are capped at 8–10, never a 30-seat coach, with no more than 4 per vehicle on road trips. The group size and vehicle are written on every journey page. Road leaders speak English, and local guides hold official guide licenses.
